Acts 27: 22-26
Can you imagine the terror of a storm out in the open sea! The wild waves, throwing the boat effortlessly high into the air, the waters crashing onto the sides, spilling over its edges onto the deck, salt stinging your eyes as you desperately clutch the railings. A feeling of total helplessness would engulf you, along with the futility of all efforts to save yourself. Drowning to death would be a sobering reality in the cold clutches of the storm. If you were in such a storm, what would keep you from losing hope?
Deacon Moko shared on Sunday that the anchor for broken vessels is God’s Word. Faith in God’s Word keeps broken vessels strong through the storms of life. Paul in Acts 27:22-26, encouraged fellow travelers who found themselves in such a storm with this word, “I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me”. God’s Word keeps His people strong even when things are hard. Painful life experiences bring people to breaking point. When you don’t have enough money to stay afloat, battle a destructive disease eating away at you with no cure, or face a deeply broken relationship, God’s Word gives you hope through the storm. Like Paul, God’s people can say, “I have faith in God’s word that it will happen as he said”.
What keeps you from losing hope in the storm? God assures us He will not let His people down. He gives hope through the Bible to all who seek Him. When you don’t know where else to go, turn to God; He is the stable anchor of life.
Application:
All people will be in storms at some point; perhaps you are in one right now. Prayerfully ask God to increase your faith in His Word. What small changes can you make to daily read a small portion of God’s Word for 10-15 minutes, and Hear His voice through scripture.
Prayer:
LORD, I come as a broken vessel, beaten by life’s harshness. Help me find hope and an anchor in Your Word. Amen
