“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you” (Romans 8:11)
Some two men were burying a man when suddenly a band of raiders attacked them. They hurriedly threw the body into another man’s tomb and as the dead man’s body touched the bones of the man in the grave, the man was suddenly resurrected. A man once dead, suddenly received new life. True story? Yes, this is a true story, found in 2 Kings 13: 20-21. The man in the grave was Elisha and his bones caused a resurrection. A man once dead was suddenly given vigor and life to live again. Believers have a similar story, people once dead, are made alive when they touch the life of Jesus through faith. They receive the power to live the Christian life.
Pastor Fred said in this week’s sermon, “It is impossible to live the Christian life without the power of the Holy Spirit”. The Holy Spirit gives the power to find true identity in God and the power to live a God-pleasing life.
Have you ever faced a tremendous challenge in obeying God? Maybe it was living a pure life in a world that looks down on sexual purity, loving a spouse who makes life difficult, or submitting to a boss who selfishly bullies you. The power to live as God desires comes from God’s Spirit.
Application:
List down three things that God is calling you to do that seem particularly impossible. It could be believing where there seems to be no hope, obeying where it is so costly, or walking in holiness when temptation is rampant. Leave space on your paper trusting God for future answers to these impossibilities.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for the power You provide to live the Christian life. Come into my life and help me live for You through life’s difficult challenges. Amen
