Rev Wanje introduced another ‘I AM’ of Jesus; He is The Gate. He expounded on the protection, provision, and the plea from the gate. We were told, a gate’s primary purpose is twofold: to shut out unwanted people/ things and to shut in whatever we consider precious to us.

“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved” (v.9a). Jesus gave us the greatest gift for choosing to walk through the gate – salvation. We are covered and protected once we have done so (John 3:16). There is a beautiful irony that exists in being protected in the gate; that we also walk in the light. (John 8:12, I John 1:7). Jesus’ protection consists of walking a life that’s transparent and not cloaked in darkness.

Rev Wanje reminded us that Satan’s agenda is to steal, kill, and destroy our soul’s serenity and success. We are always in need of protection. He gave examples of instances of robbery and theft. In all those instances, the thieves either appeared at night or, when operating in the daytime, relied on others to lie on their behalf. However, in every case, no one’s life was endangered. We see that man-made gates can be cut, scaled, or bypassed. However, Jesus’ gate is eternal, “…I have come that they may have life, and have it in full” (v.10b). Jesus is our ultimate protection.
